Storagecraft There Was a Fast Incremental Tracking Error

  1. Home

  3. Data Backup

The backup fails at around 60% completed.  Any ideas?

What info can I supply to help?

Here are the backup log entries:

I sent this to one of my co-workers who has pretty extensive experience with SP (we actually partner with them on a bundled product). This is what he said:

The issue is in the log:

Fatal I/O error on E:\S_VOL-b001.spf offset 39337b1a00 on write (-31 A device attached to the system is not functioning.)

StorageCraft is unable to create/write to the file.  3 possible causes:

  • the permissions are messed up.  – check permissions.
  • The E:\ or the volume is marked as read-only. -- Check Read-only bit.
  • The drive is bad or badly formatted. – Try using Windows Explorer to open the volume and create a file on it using Notepad to see if that works.

I hope that helps!

Is it something simple like disk space and network traffic?  We use ShadowProtect here and it was doing something like this but it was disk space and also network connection

It is doing the backup onto a spare drive located in the same machine.  Network traffic cannot be an issue.

Space should not be an issue either.  It is a 500GB drive loading onto a 1TB backup drive.  The 1TB is practically empty.

  • Chkdsk E: /R

I have very little trouble with SP but I have found storagecraft tech support (by email) to be good.

Thanks for your help!  I will look into these things!

The drive is bad...  I will have to replace.  Thanks for your help!
